 Globos Igniting

 
Once the globo is more-or-less open, the “engine” has to be mounted inside.

The engine you see above is simply a cotton rag or coarse wadding, tightly twisted into the shape of a doughnut. This is doused with kerosene, then (somehow) suspended inside the globo. Once the crude engine has been ignited with a torch, it will hopefully generate enough heat to fully inflate the balloon, overcome its weight, and carry the globo far away.

The best ones soar thousands of feet and travel for many miles. Less successful globos come to dramatic, fiery ends.......
