Traveler's Guide To

Camping Mexico's Baja

By Mike & Terri Church

Review by David "El Codo" Eidell

Published January, 2002

Traveler's Guide To Camping Mexico's Baja, by Mike & Terri Church, ISBN 0-9652968-5-7, Rolling Homes Press, $12.95 U.S.

According to the author, this brand new book is directly specifically at RV'ers who want to RV the Baja peninsula and Puerto Penasco upper gulf region. The Church's other Mexico RV & Camping book includes the Baja peninsula as well as the mainland, but it costs about twice as much.

Before you scoff at the idea of spending almost thirteen dollars for a guide to campgrounds, consider this: RV's are gas hogs and it is quite easy to expend several gallons of gasoline either finding an RV park or examining several before you choose where to stay. At today's gasoline prices, this book translates to a little more than five gallons of gasoline.

Even though much of the text is the same as what's inside the larger Mexico guide, the information has been updated, new parks have been added and the book was designed and printed with shaded reference tabs on the outside to help find a particular section. I particularly like the inclusion of handy RV parks on the US side adjacent to major border crossing points.

If you aren't familiar with Mike and Terri Church's original book on RV camping in Mexico, then you are in for a treat -- simply put these books are the best camping books printed to date about finding Mexican RV parks. Campground description are concise, location sketch maps are a delight to use, GPS coordinates are included, and the format is easy to deal with -- a real help because most of the time the book will be used in transit when we are attempting to thread our way to a park. Because of the usefulness of the book, I will certainly have it sitting on my RV bookshelf when I visit Baja.
